The pricing gap

Revenue is not the number you get to keep.

A product can sell and still be priced below the return you wanted. Maker Margin System shows each assumption between the material sheet and the completed order, so you can see what changed instead of trusting one mystery percentage.

A transparent example

Follow one fictional $18 order.

Every line is an editable planning input—not a typical customer result or a promise.

Fictional sticker orderPlanning view
  1. Sale$18.00
  2. Channel + payment fee− $1.40
  3. Materials + expected waste− $2.05
  4. Packaging + shipping− $4.75
  5. Making-time allowance− $3.60
Estimated economic contribution$6.20

Your price is a chain of assumptions. The workbook lets you inspect the links.

  • Cash planning cost and economic planning cost remain separate.
  • Markup and contribution margin are labeled separately.
  • Fee presets include a date and space for a source.
  • Unsafe inputs return visible checks instead of invented results.

Built for better decisions

See the path from material sheet to completed order.

01

See cost per finished unit

Separate cash inputs from making-time and machine planning allowances, so one vague cost number does not hide the assumptions underneath.

02

Compare a price before publishing

Test discounts, bundles, free shipping, wholesale quantities, and dated channel-fee scenarios before changing a listing.

03

Keep assumptions visible

Document expected waste, yield overrides, labor and machine allowances, and run-cost inputs so the next price can be reviewed instead of guessed.

04

Trace every dashboard number

Follow a result back through the product, material, pricing, inventory, and order tables instead of trusting a mystery percentage.

Prelaunch build status

One connected XLSX workbook is verified locally; release extras remain pending.

The current Core build covers the pricing workflow with manual, inspectable inputs. Pending assets are labeled below and are not yet part of a purchasable download.

Materials

Landed unit costs, stock levels, and reorder points.

Products

Sheet geometry, yield, waste, time, and run-cost assumptions.

Pricing

Retail, bundle, wholesale, waste, and target-price scenarios.

Inventory

Raw-material roll-forward and validated transaction rows.

Orders

A traceable economic contribution view per sample order line.

Dashboard

Sample sales, economic contribution, margin, and validated price callouts.

Six-step workflow

Start with one product. Follow the numbers.

The workbook is designed to make every assumption visible and editable.

  1. 01

    Set your assumptions

Choose currency, labor allowance, waste rate, target margin, and selling-price increment.

  2. 02

    Add your materials

Enter the quantity you buy, purchase price, inbound costs, and usable units.

  3. 03

    Build one product

Add sheet size, item size, gaps, margins, making time, and its material recipe.

  4. 04

    Test the price

Compare retail, discount, shipping, wholesale, and channel scenarios side by side.

  5. 05

    Log what happened

Record validated inventory movements and manual order lines without connecting a marketplace account.

  6. 06

    Review and adjust

Use the dashboard to compare sample sales, contribution, margin, and the checked pricing scenarios.

Honest boundaries

A focused planning system—not another promise to run your whole business.

Core is deliberately manual where automation could hide assumptions or require access to your accounts.

Before you buy

Questions worth answering plainly.

Maker Margin System supports pricing decisions. It does not replace professional accounting, tax, or legal advice.

Is this bookkeeping or tax software?

No. Maker Margin System is a configurable planning workbook. Cost classification, owner labor, sales tax, and inventory treatment can vary by business and jurisdiction; ask a qualified professional about your records and filings.

Are channel fees updated automatically?

No. Fee rows are editable, dated planning scenarios. Verify every rate against your own account, plan, location, currency, and current provider terms.

Does Core sync with Etsy, Shopify, or Square?

No live sync. The verified workbook accepts manual order lines. A standalone canonical import CSV remains pending and is not represented as delivered.

Does it work for irregular die-cut layouts?

The built-in geometry handles rectangular grids and a 90-degree rotation comparison. For irregular or mixed layouts, use a yield you measured from your real production file and document the assumption.

Where is my business data stored?

Your material costs, product assumptions, inventory movements, and order rows stay in the workbook file you control. The product does not require you to upload those inputs to this storefront.

Will it guarantee a profit?

No. The workbook produces planning estimates from the inputs you provide. Actual fees, waste, refunds, demand, operating costs, and outcomes can differ.
